A small town of approximately 50,000 residents and is geographically located between Sarasota and Ft. Myers. Port Charlotte History
Port Charlotte is a relatively new community developed in the late 1950's. It encompasses the unincorporated area of Charlotte County and is comprised mostly of single family homes with a spattering of condos and town homes. Charlotte County has an area of approximately 820 square miles and a population of approximately 157,000.
A small town attitude with bigger town features which include plenty of shopping and the Town Center Mall. Affordable saltwater home sites for the sailboater and powerboater attract people from around the U.S. Extremely reasonable homes not far from the waterfront start at $75,000!
There are freshwater lakes and canals nearly everywhere and are sought after by many that like the idea of having freshwater fish and activities such as canoeing, kayaking and birdwatching. Canoeing and kayaking have become popular throughout Charlotte County with several Kayak clubs and even the annual Kayak festival for enthusiasts.
Port Charlotte is located west of the Peace River and has access to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico via a series of canals and waterways that total more than 165 miles in length. There are miles of natural shoreline bordering the Harbor and rivers, making it an ideal choice for waterfront living. Plenty of big city attractions in Venice/Sarasota to the North and Naples/Ft. Myers to the south. Englewood lies on the Coast to the Southwest and North Port sit immediately to the North. Port Charlotte has two hospitals with a neighboring hospital in Punta Gorda. Port Charlotte boasts many great golf courses and also has plenty for the kids to do.
